Medicine Bag Project

During the 2008 Holiday season, Waves of Health volunteers distributed one hundred and fifty free “medicine bags” to underprivileged families in the village of Jaya outside the city of San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic.  Many people in the developing world do not have access to or cannot afford many common over the counter supplies.  We often take for granted the Band-Aids or Tylenol that we routinely have in our homes.  Minor ailments can become significant medical problems when they are not treated properly.  With the Waves of Health “medicine bag” people will have the proper medications and supplies to better care for themselves.  Each “medicine bag” will have:

Tylenol
Motrin
Benadryl
Pepcid/Zantac
Antacid
Antibiotic ointment
Band-Aids
Toothbrushes
Dental Floss
Soap
Cough drops
Hand Sanitizer
Vitamins
Aspirin
Imodium

Waves of Health counts on donations of materials and funds to continue this project.

Dajabon Project

Waves of Health will continue to help the underserved frontier town of Dajabon, Dominican Republic. In conjunction with local doctors, we will provide medical care and supplies to residents from the most impoverished sections within the town and surrounding communities.

Waves of Health will continue to work on three main objectives:

1. Waves of Health doctors will return to Dajabon and see as many patients as possible, both in the Padre Valentin Salinero clinic and in the farming camps, and provide them with medications

2. Properly equip the clinic. Waves of Health will up-date the clinics so that local doctors and nurses will have the instruments they need to properly exam and treat patients.

3. Establish a long term partnership with local doctors and nurses. Waves of Health will continue to help staff and supply the clinics so that underserved people will always have access to good medical care.

Funding for this project is needed. Please send checks to Waves of Health, c/o Dr. Boni/Hanify 206 Bergen Avenue, Kearny, NJ 07032. We will also accept any medical equipment.

Medical Mission to Dajabon

Currently we are planning our next medical mission to Dajabon,  D.R.  Once again we hope to bring primary care to an underserved area of the Dominican Republic.  Dajabon is a rural city in the northwest region of the Dominican Republic, on the border with Haiti.

Medical Supplies and  Disaster Relief

We are in the process of organizing a supply line to the Dominical Republic.  We are trying to help local doctors and nurses with any shortages in their medication and supplies.  In addition, if another natural disaster like Tropical Storm Noel strikes we will be able to send needed supplies (medicine, clothing, dry goods, etc) to victims.
