The Waves of Health are active in our local communities and gaining prevalence in the surfing community. We are affiliated with several outreach organizations who share a common interest. Through collaboration, we have been able to strengthen our cause and affect our goals in the positive.
The Surfer’s Medical Association
An international organization of health care professionals dedicated to surfing. The SMA promotes research, training, and education regarding trauma and disease factors affecting surfers. They are committed to community service, testing and implementing models of health-care delivery in underdeveloped regions where surfing has an impact.
The Waves of Health has partnered with the SMA to develop services focused on surf-specific injuries and common medical problems encountered by adventure travelers. With the SMA, we are working to expand our outreach with professional seminars and courses specific for training medical personnel in the field.
Surfing Doctors
A close-knit group of medical professionals dedicated to providing care in remote areas attracting adventure travelers. Benefiting local communities and resort staff, the Surfing Doctors are able to address surfing ailment or injury through their diverse group of medical personnel. Focusing on educating surfers in the field of Basic Life Suppord (BLS), their members can be found throughout the Pacific Islands and beyond.
The Waves of Health have joined the Surfing Doctors to more effectively deliver medical instruction and care to the remotest and most popular regions of surf travel, the Fijian Islands.
The WoH-Billabong Pipeline Masters Continuing Medical Education Conference

Wilderness Medical Society, a 501(c)(3) organization, committed to advancing health care, research, and education in the field of wilderness medicine, the Pipeline Conference is an educational experience unlike any other. Providing CME credits to medical professionals, the Pipeline Conference joins medical education with the chance to surf the world’s best waves during peak season on the North Shore of Hawaii.

WAVES creates life-enriching experiences in coastal communities through Education programs that develop youth into healthy & empowered adults and Surf Voluntourism programs that engage travelers & transform their views of the world and themselves.
The Waves of Health have partnered with WAVES for Development to strengthen the communities responsible for the world’s longest left-hand point-break, found in Northern Peru.
FEDOSURF
FEDOSURF, established in 2002, is the National Governing Body of surfing in the Dominican Republic. It is a non-profit entity, whose main goal is to support and advance the sport of surfing and high-performance athletes in the Dominican Republic. FEDOSURF is recognized by the International Surfing Association, the Pan American Surfing Association, Dominican Olympic Committee, and the Ministry of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation.
Partnering with The Waves of Health, the FEDOSURF have been pivotal in bringing medical services to the Puerto Plata/Cabarete region of the Dominican Republic.
Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) events
The Waves of Health contributes medical support to the spectators and athletes during professional surfing events with services ranging from sunburn and dehydration treatments to sports related injuries and medical emergencies. Here are some of the events we have participated in:
