Medical Mission FAQs

How long is a mission?

Typically the mission begins on a Saturday as a travel day. Sunday through Friday are working clinic days. Friday night and Saturday are days spent at a resort to rest, and Sunday is the final travel day. 

How much does it cost to go on a medical mission?

Volunteers pay for their airfare plus a rooming-board transportation fee of approximately $500.

Do you need any vaccine prior to the mission?

No, vaccines are not required for entering the Dominican Republic. However, we recommend the volunteers are up to date with vaccinations for Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Diptheria, and Pertussis, Polio, and Typhoid. We also recommend Malaria Prophylaxis. 

Is Waves of Health a Religious based organization?

No. Waves of Health always has volunteers from virtually every religion. We respect all faiths and welcome all volunteers.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

We try our best to accommodate all dietary needs. 

What is a typical day's schedule ?

8 am leave the "hotel" and assemble at the clinic for continental breakfast and morning briefing
9 am to 1 pm  morning clinic session
1pm to 2 pm lunch
2 pm to 6pm  afternoon clinic session
8 pm dinner
